Alice Night is an ‘Artivist’ hybrid who transmutes music, storytelling and performance art into ‘honest as f*ck folk.’ With powerful conviction and hauntingly beautiful intimacy, hearing Alice’s voice is like walking through a nordic forest in a timeless dimension. Audiences are reliably brought to tears whilst also inspired by her artistry, honesty and relentless optimism. Alice is most noted for the richness and breadth of her voice; her courageous stage presence; and her unique, bold and poetic lyrics.
Alice Night has an EP and an album to her name already and a double album in the works, collaborating with producer composer Chris Townend and a host of incredible musicians for her innovative new project Celtic Now. Her 2016 single At The Corner was met with strong response from Triple J Unearthed and regular airplay thanks to radio host Jen Fricker who was “...so impressed by the depth of storytelling and the musicianship.” Alice Night launched her debut album 'Culture How Could You?' at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Arts in April 2016 followed by an east coast tour with her band performing in diverse spaces such as MONA gallery in Tasmania and The Zoo (Brisbane). The album was met with positive reviews and cited as a breath of fresh air “...fans of Bjork, Lorde and Ladyhawke will adore this enchanting debut.” -Music is My Muse.
After participating in the JUMP mentorship program supported by the Australia Council for the Arts in 2014, Alice Night formed a collaborative duo with ARIA nominated and APRA award winning composer Robert Davidson (Topology). Alice continues to work closely in collaboration with electronic artists, composers, experimental sound makers and theatre makers.
Exploring frontiers of musical expression opened up by artists such as P.J Harvey, Beth Orton, Bjork and Ani Difranco, Alice confronts heartbreak in the broader sense of the term using song-writing as a place of deep reflection and radical honesty. Tackling themes such as substance addiction, violence, and the contradictions of the modern world; while also wildly exploring the power of imagination, beauty, nature and dreams. Alice Night reminds us of the innate and wondrous but often stifled curious child, the brave tenacity of the human spirit and why even when love turns its back on us, we do it all again.
Alice Night represents a wave of bold, conscious contemporary artists who aren’t afraid to question the status quo. She is both a budding playwright and novelist after studying writing for performance at The National Institute for Dramatic Arts (NIDA) and an understated white-witch-healer of cultural trauma. Alice confronts life through art, leading her audiences through sobering contemplations and elating potentials.
Her performances are an intimate experience of empowered vulnerability with an authenticity that is palpable. “...the tone to Alice Night's voice is just irresistible.” Dave Ruby Howe - Triple J Unearthed.
